Taryn Beri Solo Exhibition
Art for Everyone Programme – Curated Gallery Exhibtion
We’re delighted to present a new exhibition by Taryn Beri of Ngāti Toarangatira, Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, Ngāti Koata and Ngai Tahu descent.
‘Little Prayers’ is a collection largely inspired by ancient symbolism, ancestral wisdom, the natural world, and the magic of colour. “I have also drawn from God’s Word and my exploration of the intersection of Christianity with traditional indigenous beliefs” says Taryn. “My aim with these pieces is to add joy, colour, peace, harmony, culture, depth, and love to the world and to the spaces that they adorn.”
Taryn has previously studied at Toihoukura Māori Art School, Te Wānanga o Raukawa, and undertaken a three year taa moko apprenticeship with a tohunga (master/expert) cultural tattooer. She has also previously contributed to exhibitions at Te Papa Tongarewa National Museum of New Zealand, The Royal Ontario Museum (Canada), The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Manifacto Amsterdam, The Field Museum (Chicago), Musee du quai Branly (Paris), Ora NY Gallery (New York) and more.
Taryn is now a full time travelling tattooer and painter, touring Perth, Bali, Hawaii, and Nelson in 2022.
